Our Strengthening Families Initiative and Family Support program is designed to:
Provide support and resources to families; provide training and education to families;
advocate on behalf of children and families; help families to become self-sufficient,
and link families to available community resources
Strengthening Families Initiative:
Our Strengthening Families Initiative, a strategy developed through
the Washington-based Center for the Study of Social Policy (CSSP),
is a conceptual framework and approach to preventing child abuse and neglect.
The approach is organized around evidence-based Protective Factors that early
childhood programs can build around young children by working differently with
their families. Our Strengthening Families Initiative provides a social network
for families through activities such as center-based luncheons, meetings, parent
workshops, volunteer reading, and many other activities. Families have opportunities
to gather and make connections with other families, and develop better relationships
between staff and parents and parents and children. Staff and community service
providers help our families with parenting issues and developmental challenges.
Families have the opportunity to visit the Parent Resource Library that is
available in each center. The library has information on ages and stages of
development, discipline, children with special needs, and other issues related
to early childhood development.
